Maybe you feel like everyone expects you to be superwoman and have it all together. This could drive you to work hard, but it also could lead to burnout and exhaustion. Over time, all the pressure on your shoulders could make you anxious, on edge, and unable to regulate your emotions. You probably feel like you have no time to focus on yourself and your needs.

About Therapy for Women

  • If you’re a new mother, perhaps you’re struggling to adjust to this new life with your baby. We as a culture have learned so much in recent years about the importance of maternal mental health and how to cultivate well-being at this crucial time. The pressure to care for another human being can lead to sleepless nights and cause you to miss your pre-parent life. You might be suffering from postpartum depression or anxiety and wondering how you’ll ever adapt to this new routine.

Regardless of what your challenges are, I encourage you to connect with me. Counseling can help women improve their confidence, prioritize self-care, maintain a healthier work-life balance, and find hope for the future.

  • Women are almost twice as likely as men to be depressed. ¹ This is due to a combination of biological, psychological, and social factors. After all, women deal with so much wear-and-tear on their physical and emotional health. Hormonal changes during menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause can affect a woman’s mood and increase the risk of mental illness.

Moreover, women in our culture are more likely to experience discrimination, sexual assault, and domestic violence. All of these traumatic life events can contribute to the development of depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues.

  • All over social media, we see companies and influencers promoting unrealistic beauty standards and telling us to lose weight. Aging is seen as the enemy and thinness the ultimate goal. We’re also bombarded with unhealthy messages about motherhood—we’re told that it should be a joyous and fulfilling time. No one prepares us for all the negative emotions that come with being a new mom.

Therapy gives women and mothers the opportunity to freely express the full range of their emotions and talk about their struggles without any fear of judgment.

  • You deserve a place where you can relax, be yourself, and let go of unhealthy expectations. You don’t have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. I’m here to help you cope with difficult emotions, make room for self-care, and improve your sense of self-worth.

Most importantly, I want you to get in touch with your authentic identity and learn to love who you are. There are so many negative messages surrounding women in our culture—my role as your therapist is to show you that these messages have no bearing on who you are and help you arrive at your own empowering view of yourself.

What To Expect In Therapy for Women

Above all, therapy gives you a space for self-exploration. Together, you and I will explore your feelings around work, health, aging, family, and relationships. We’ll look at your deepest values, assess what you want for your future, and develop new coping strategies for managing your stress. We will work together to identify which emotions are getting triggered, help you slow your reactions, and develop a compassionate understanding of yourself.

Additionally, I want to help you manage your relationships with friends, family, spouses, and colleagues. You’ll learn new communication skills so that you can be more assertive and maintain healthier boundaries. As a woman, it’s so easy to get trapped by the idea that you have to sacrifice your needs for others. Counseling can help you improve your sense of confidence and empowerment, allowing you to stand up for yourself and prioritize your needs.

Creating Your Counseling Plan

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy for women, since everyone is different. I use a combination of healing methods depending on your needs and preferences, including:

• Psychodynamic Therapy, an approach that explores the underlying emotional issues causing anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem. Psychodynamic therapy can help you better understand the connection between past experiences and present symptoms.

• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which can help you challenge negative thought patterns and cope with everyday emotional struggles. Through CBT, you’ll learn to question automatic thoughts like “I’m not good enough” or “I’m not attractive” and develop a more empowering view of yourself.

• Mindfulness, which is all about slowing down, de-stressing, and cultivating greater awareness of your thoughts and emotions. Mindfulness exercises like meditation and deep breathing can help you achieve peace in your mind and body.

No matter which approach benefits you most, I am confident that I can help you grow, heal, and thrive. As your therapist, I am here to provide you with support and guidance as you navigate your emotional and physical challenges. You don’t have to do it alone.

You May Have Some Questions About Therapy for Women…

  • In a sense, you can work through many challenges alone. But no matter how brilliant or resourceful you are, you’re still limited to your own perspective. A therapist can help you gain a fresh perspective and see your situation from a different angle.

What’s more, seeking mental health support does not mean that you’re weak or unable to cope on your own. It’s the opposite. Counseling can give you the tools to deal with issues more effectively outside of sessions, allowing you to function as your own therapist in day-to-day life.

  • I understand what it’s like to feel stretched thin and have too much on your plate. But therapy is just an hour a week to focus on you—something you might not have a chance to do during the week. It’s so important to create space for self-care. Doing so can benefit every area of your life, including your career, relationships, and overall health and wellness.

  • The therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of counseling. That’s why I seek to connect with my clients on an emotional level above all else. And because I am also a woman, I am confident that you and I can relate to each other in a meaningful way. I would be honored to support you on your journey.
